Centre for Service Learning and Social Innovation
Through weekly online engagement sessions and a collaborative initiative between Mtoko and Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT), a Centre for Service Learning and Social Innovation was formed. This center is a first of its kind in Tanzania in using the mobile phone to connect students and organizations through service learning projects.
The Objectives of the KIUT Centre for Service Learning and Social Innovation Include the following:
- To develop service both in person and digital opportunities for service learning projects with all KIUT students and select Mtoko Fellows/ other universities in Tanzania
- To provide support and opportunities for community based engagement and problem solving with organizations inside and outside Tanzania with a focus on building connections
Organizations, service learning students at KIUT and Mtoko Empathy Building and Changemaker Fellows are housed in the network so that new connections are formed. Members are connected via mobile phone and organizations we partner with have access to content and materials developed by Mtoko
The Centre is managed by both Mtoko and the Dean of Managment, Computing and Social Science at KIUT, Dr. Rashid Kiliza.
